Question: |
What is the difference between Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy Acids? |
Answer: |
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) include glycolic and mixed fruit acid complexes specially formulated to exfoliate the skin. In addition, they promote the removal of dead surface cells and cause skin to reproduce more quickly. As humans age, skin cell regeneration slows, causing lines and wrinkles to form. AHA products help skin act "younger." This improves the appearance of wrinkles and helps prevent new lines from forming. The removal of dead surface cells also helps prevent breakouts, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and improve tone, texture and overall appearance. Also, Alpha Hydroxy Acids are water-soluble. Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) - like salicylic acid - are fat-soluble, and are often used in skin care products to accelerate skin cell turnover and help clear oily pores. They can penetrate more deeply than AHAs and are gentler. |
