Payroll Clerk - Part Time
Department: Accounting
Job Description: Review and solicit approval on all time sheets, update wage and other payroll related changes, process payroll, prepare payroll journal entries for Canada and the US, including the monthly payroll accrual. Manage the 401K, State and Canadian Audits.
Duties/Responsibilities: • Process payroll by collecting data, downloading time clocks, transmitting payroll information, reviewing for accuracy and ensure proper distribution to employees for both the United States and Canada. • Update employee records by entering new hires; wage increases, departmental changes, tax information, deductions, direct deposits, etc. on payroll system upon receiving proper authorization. • Track accruals by monitoring sick, vacation and personal hours and days. • Generate various payroll-related reports including 401K, workers compensation and taxes. • Prepare the biweekly payroll journal entries by gathering data from our current payroll system. • Prepare journal entry for the monthly payroll accrual. • Prepare 401K plan information and arrange for payment. • Prepared workers compensation data for HR reporting. • Verify and review all changes to the master records made by Human Resources to ensure that all changes have been properly authorized. • Manage the audits on the 401K, workers compensation, IRS & Department of Labor, State, and Canada/Ontario audits. • Payroll for employees with:  Loan forgiveness, employee moving expenses paid by company, reimbursement of education assistance to graduate students • Review all inception to date information by employee to assure it is accurate prior to running the final year-end statements • Work with supervisor by assisting in solving W2/1099 problems. • Mail U.S W-2’s • Mail Canadian Annual Compensation Statements • Understand and adhere to GMP policies and procedures. • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
Qualifications: • Strong written and oral communication skills. • Must have knowledge and experience in accounting. • Knowledgeable in creating and posting journal entries • Must have previous payroll experience with ability to perform accounting functions. • Working knowledge of payroll system and time clocks. • Effectively and efficiently perform all essential job duties and responsibilities with or without direct supervision and without posing a direct safety threat to others or self.
